Paul Merson has written on SportKeeda that he is not surprised that Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is not part of the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

The former Arsenal star has said that Firmino has simply not done enough for Liverpool over the past 18 months to merit a place in the Brazil squad for the Qatar World Cup.

The £180,000-a-week Brazil international forward (Spotrac) has scored six goals and provided three assists in 10 Premier League starts for Liverpool so far this season.

Firmino has also scored two goals and given one assist in four UEFA Champions League starts for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Liverpool no. 9 scored five goals and gave four assists in 10 Premier League League starts last season.

Firmino scored five goals in seven UEFA Champions League starts for the Reds last season.

Paul Merson on Liverpool and Brazil forward Roberto Firmino

Merson wrote: “Roberto Firmino hasn’t made it to Brazil’s squad, and it doesn’t come as a shocker.

“He’s done well this season but if you look at the past year and a half, he just hasn’t done enough.

“With the attacking ammunition that Brazil have, I’m not too surprised, to be honest.”

Disappointment

In our view, it will come as a disappointment to Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino that he is not part of the Brazil first team for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Brazil do have a very good and strong team, especially in attack, and there is a very good chance that they will win the World Cup in Qatar.
