Paul Merson has claimed that reported Tottenham Hotspur target Youri Tielemans is good enough for any of the Premier League’s top six – including Manchester City.

The Belgium international has been lighting up England’s top flight since joining Leicester City on loan from Monaco in January.

Tielemans is worth £40 million according to The Telegraph, who reported in March that Tottenham could rival Leicester for a permanent transfer.

But Merson, speaking on Sky Sports News [06/05/2019], claims that Spurs aren’t the only elite English side that should be in the mix, urging former club Arsenal to enter the reckoning.

“I think he’s special, I really do, I think this kid is a top, top player. The only thing is he’s been working with Brendan [Rodgers] for the last couple of months.

“Surely they’re getting into his ear about signing – they’ve got to get his lad signed. I think he can go to any of the top four, or top six. If I was Arsenal or Man United, I’d be looking at him all day long, all day long.

“Even Man City should be looking, I think he’s that good. He’s only young, 21. Wow.”

The 22-year-old has netted three goals and set up four in 12 Premier League outings so far.

Brendan Rodgers’s side finish their season at home to Chelsea this weekend and another glittering display against one of the division’s best would see his stock rise even higher.

The problem is that he is contracted to Monaco until 2022, meaning that if his price gets too high then Tottenham in particular may not be able to afford him.
