Paul Merson has questioned Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical knowledge, during an interview which was broadcast on Sky Bet’s Twitter feed.

Merson believes that Pochettino was too complacent when Spurs played Swansea City in their last Premier League home match.

Tottenham could only draw 0-0 with Swansea at Wembley, when Heung-Min Son was selected to play at left wing-back.

And Merson has questioned the logic behind the decision, as he doesn’t feel Pochettino can afford to rotate.

“I look at foreign managers, and I think do they grab it [the Premier League]? It’s like Pochettino playing Son at left-wing back against Swansea. Are you telling me he would have played if they were playing Manchester City at Wembley,” the former Arsenal man said.

“Some of these managers think ‘I can put him in there, I can make six changes and we’ll beat them’. But it doesn’t work like that.”

Spurs’ draw with Swansea was costly, as it has left them trailing the league leaders at this early stage of the season.

Tottenham are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table, but they are yet to pick up a victory at Wembley in the league.

Spurs’ next match comes against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow, and if Pochettino’s side pick up the three points they could move ahead of Chelsea in the top flight standings.
