Liverpool play host to Manchester City in the Premier League tomorrow.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson predicted the outcome of tomorrow’s Premier League clash between Liverpool and Man City at Anfield, when writing his regular prediction column for Sky Sports.
The Reds head into the game a distant 18 points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s runaway leaders in fourth position in the Premier League table, and a win will be of paramount importance to their hopes of finishing inside the top four.
City, meanwhile, will be looking to stretch their lead over second placed Manchester United with all three points at Anfield, and the way they have been playing, it would take a brave man to bet against them doing just that.
Merson, though, threw a spanner in the works, when writing his prediction column for Sky Sports, predicting that City could be in for a tough afternoon on Merseyside:
“I think Liverpool could be the team that finally beat Manchester City. I know Philippe Coutinho is not there anymore but they’ve still got the firepower to beat them, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. City haven’t won at Anfield since 2003, although you’ve got to remember what City were like back then, they’re not the team they are now that’s for sure. But I fancy Liverpool – I didn’t think I’d ever say that!:
Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Man City
The Citizens have not won at Anfield since 2003, so history is definitely on the side of the hosts, but one thing is for certain, with both managers favouring an attacking approach to the game, there should be a wonderfully expansive game of football on display tomorrow, and it really could go either way.
