Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson tips Sunderland to pick up a rare victory against West Ham when the two sides meet in the Premier League clash at the Stadium of Lights on Saturday.

Sunderland are rock bottom in the Premier League with 20 points, ten points behind 17th placed Hull City, and need a miracle to save themselves from getting relegated.

The Black Cats are winless in their last seven games, losing six of them, and have scored a single goal during this period. The negativity surrounding the club has reached its zenith, leaving many fans and pundits alike wondering whether David Moyes is really the right man to turn it around.

Merson says that it is Sunderland’s last chance if they are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop. He feels that Moyes needs a victory to at least give the fans some hope for the next season.

“Sunderland, welcome to the last-chance saloon. I think they are down regardless but they have to win this match to stand any chance,” Merson told SkySports.com.

“There are ways of going down and they need to get three points for the fans, to give them something ahead of next season. You might as well turn the floodlights off if they lose.”

Merson predicts a 1-0 victory for Sunderland.

West Ham, like Sunderland, are going through a wretched run of form. The Hammers have won just once in their last six games, although their victory against Swansea last week took some pressure off the shoulders of their manager, Slaven Bilic.

The Hammers have suffered a huge blow this week after the club confirmed that star player Michail Antonio will no longer take part for the rest of the campaign through injury.
