Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson, predicts Sunderland to manage a valuable point against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Sunderland are on a wretched run here having failed to win their last six Premier League matches, of which they lost five.

Sitting rock bottom in the Premier League, Sunderland have a slight chance to avoid themselves from getting relegated.

They are heading into this match on a back of two successive defeats, and Merson says the Black Cats are certain to go down.

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League games, but they have drawn too many matches during that run, especially at home.

The Red Devils have dropped points against West Brom and Everton in their last two home games and will be looking to avoid another frustrating result when they face Sunderland.

Those two results have served a huge blow to United’s chances of making into the top four, and now their best chance, if not the only chance of getting into the Champions League next season is by winning the Europa League.

They have a crucial Europa League game coming up in midweek, and Merson believes the Red Devils will focus all their attention on that game. He predicts a 1-1 draw.

“Manchester United have got Europa League in midweek and for me they’ve got to put all their eggs in that basket,” said Merson to Sky Sports. They’ve had two bad results in a row and I don’t think they can make the top four anymore. This is almost a game they don’t need.

“Sunderland did alright at Leicester in midweek but they lost again. They’re down for me, but I think they’ll get a draw here.”
