Paul Merson has told SkySports he believes Tottenham will beat Middlesbrough this weekend despite the loss of Harry Kane.

Kane is out injured after sustaining an ankle blow last week against Sunderland, and Merson says he is intrigued as to how Tottenham get on without him.

The pundit clearly believes they are not overly reliant on the striker, as he is backing them to record a 3-0 win away to Middlesbrough this weekend.

He said: “It will be interesting to see how Spurs cope without Harry Kane, but it was important for Vincent Janssen to get off the mark in midweek.

“I see Tottenham, who went to Stoke and gave them a footballing lesson, winning this pretty comfortably at the Riverside. They look a very good team.”

Tottenham are third in the table after an good start to the season, currently unbeaten in domestic competitions.

Middlesbrough have won only once, drawing twice, and sit in 13th position with five points.

Their last home game was a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace, which they followed up with a 3-1 defeat away to Everton, and they will be keen to avoid the heavy 3-0 defeat which Merson predicts for them.

Spurs will want to continue their momentum with a win, as they host league leaders Manchester City the following weekend.
