Paul Merson predicts Tottenham will win away at Southampton.
Paul Merson has told SkySports that he predicts Tottenham Hotspur will win away at Southampton in their upcoming fixture.
Spurs visit the Saints on December 28, and could be under pressure as they will be playing a day or two later than their rivals.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Merson is predicting a 2-1 win for Tottenham, despite the team losing their last three away fixtures, against Monaco, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
They have rallied with home wins against Swansea City, Hull City and Burnley, but a trip to a tough Southampton side will be a good test for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Merson believes they will come through it, stating: “They [Southampton] were comfortable in the end against Bournemouth and it was good to see Jay Rodriguez back among the goals but I’m not sure about them.
“I fancy Spurs to win at St. Mary’s draws are simply no good to them.”
Southampton are seventh in the Premier League table in comparison to Tottenham’s fifth, but there is a nine point gap between the two teams, as a gulf threatens to emerge between the top six and everybody else.
Southampton manager Claude Puel
Claude Puel’s side have lost just one of their last six games and conceded only 16 goals in 17 matches, so Tottenham will have to be at their best if they are to come away with a victory.
