Newcastle United play host to Manchester City on December 27th.

Ex footballer Paul Merson enjoying day two of the Cheltenham Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse on March 11, 2015 in Cheltenham, England.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson predicted the outcome of Newcastle’s Premier League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday night, when writing his regular prediction column for Sky Sports.

The Magpies will go into the game against the league leaders full of confidence, after ending their worrying winless run with a 3-2 victory over West Ham United yesterday.

They now sit in 15th position in the table, two points clear of the drop zone.

Pep Guardiola’s side will present a totally different challenge, though, and have been rampant throughout the course of the entire campaign, dropping just two points thus far.

City sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League table, a massive 13 points clear of second placed Manchester United.

And Merson believes that there is no stopping the Citizens this season, predicting a comfortable away win for Guardiola’s men at St James’ Park, when writing his regular column for Sky Sports:

“Man City played in second gear and still beat Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday! They won 4-0 in second gear, so I am going to go for another 4-0 win. I think City will just rip them apart and Newcastle have had their result (beating West Ham). The problem is that Newcastle will sit 10 men behind the ball, but you are going to get broken down though before the end of the game. And City are just relentless, relentless, but it is no disrespect to Newcastle, who had a massive football result at West Ham on Saturday, but City will beat better teams than Newcastle by more than 4-0.”

Newcastle can climb as high as 12th with a win over City on Wednesday, as unlikely as that may seem, whilst the visitors will be looking to hammer home their advantage at the top of the table.
