Merson expects Tottenham to be outclassed by Chelsea.
Paul Merson
Former Premier League midfielder Paul Merson has told SkySports he believes Chelsea will be too good for Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Spurs travel across London to Stamford Bridge in the Saturday evening kickoff, and Merson says he expects Chelsea to win by two clear goals.
Merson explains that he feels tactically, Chelsea will be too good for Tottenham, arguing that they are more adept at playing three at the back.
Predicting a 3-1 home win for the Blues, Merson said: “I’m going to go for Chelsea because I think Tottenham will play the same way as Chelsea and set up with three at the back.
“That’s a very difficult system to play off-the-cuff. I know they did it at Arsenal and did well but they’re playing against a team who are brilliant at it.
“I just think Tottenham are going to try and play the way that Chelsea play and I don’t think it will work.”
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Also working in Chelsea’s favour is the fact they have had a full week’s rest, unlike Tottenham, who had a Champions League match in midweek.
Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat to Monaco, dampening their spirits, with the result confirming their elimination from the competition.
The result will give Spurs extra motivation to get at least a point away to Chelsea, but it could be difficult for them if they go down early against the Blues.
