Paul Merson says his best hope for Arsenal is that they hold Tottenham to a draw.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Paul Merson has told SkySports that he believes Arsenal and Tottenham will play out a draw this weekend.

Merson admits his prediction is half out of hope, and feels it is the best he can envisage, feeling that Tottenham will be too good.

Merson added that he expects the score to be 1-1, adding: “I am going to go for the draw, but that’s only in the hope!

“If both teams turn up, you just see Tottenham winning.”

Tottenham have a four point advantage on Arsenal heading into the game, and Merson believes the Gunners are no longer title contenders.

Arsenal are 12 points behind league leaders Manchester City already.

Merson said that Arsenal will be happy simply to put a dent in Tottenham’s title challenge.

He said: “For Arsenal fans, if they come away with a 1-1 draw and can stop Tottenham winning the league, I think that is how it has now got at the moment as Arsenal are not going to win the league.”

A win will lift the gloom around Arsenal for now, and give them a platform from which to build for the rest of the campaign.
