Paul Merson has given his verdict on Manchester United defender Harry Maguire for his performance against Fulham at Old Trafford.

The former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit was not impressed with most of the United players.

So, what has Paul Merson said about Manchester United defender Harry Maguire? Let’s take a look.

Paul Merson comments on Harry Maguire display for Manchester United vs Fulham

Well, Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

After a goalless first half, Calvin Bassey lashed home the loose ball after his header from a Fulham corner had been blocked by teammate Timothy Castagne.

That was in the 65th minute. Harry Maguire restored parity for the Red Devils on 89 minutes.

Fulham scored the winner in the seventh minute of injury time when Alex Iwobi found the back of the net.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson was following the match for Sky Sports, and he noted that none of the United players did well but reserved some praise for the £200,000-a-week (SalarySport) Maguire for the effort he put in. Merson also felt sorry for Omari Forson.

When asked if any United player played well against Fulham, Merson said on Sky Sports News (5:26 pm, February 24, 2024): “No, they were really bad. Honestly, I can’t explain how bad they were.

“They were so so so so bad. No one played well. Rashford – no, Garnacho – no, Fernandes – no. Even Mainoo, he got subbed, he got subbed today. No, he didn’t play very well.

“Casemiro went off, McTominary came on, Eriksen came on, no, no one today. Probably Maguire for effort and he gets the goal, should have definitely scored another with a header, but honestly, really really poor.”

My View: Manchester United will bounce back

In my opinion, Manchester United will bounce back from the defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s side, who could lose defender Raphael Varane at the end of the season, were hugely disappointing against the Cottagers, but every team is allowed an ‘off day’.

Let us not forget the four successive wins that United earned in the Premier League before the defeat to Fulham.

United will take on Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils will lock horns with Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.
