Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Paul Merson praised Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News this past Saturday (5:21pm, February 23, 2019).

Merson was impressed with the performance of Longstaff during Newcastle’s 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town at St. James’ Park in the Premier League this past Saturday.

According to Whoscored, Longstaff took two shots, played two key passes, 88%, won one header, and took 89 touches.

Merson said about Longstaff on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News this past Saturday (5:21pm, February 23, 2019): “The kid Longstaff, he is a good player, a real good player as well.”

Promising talent

Longstaff has only just started to break into the Newcastle first team, and the midfielder’s performances have been very encouraging.

The 21-year-old has been very impressive in the middle of the park, and desire his tender age, he has shown that he can rub shoulders with the very best.

Relegation battle

Newcastle are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

Rafael Benitez’s side are 15th in the Premier League table at the moment with 28 points from 27 matches, four points above the relegation zone.
