Virgil van Dijk is an important player in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team.

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool emerges from the shadows during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Burnley at Anfield on March 10, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Paul Merson spoke highly of Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Football last Saturday afternoon (12:42pm, March 9, 2019).

The former Arsenal star believes that Van Dijk is the best central defender in the world, and he also said that the ex-Celtic and Southampton star is so good that it is scary.

Merson said about Van Dijk on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Football last Saturday afternoon (12:42pm, March 9, 2019): “He is just so good it’s scary. I would say he is the best in the world.”

Brilliant acquisition for Liverpool

Liverpool signed Van Dijk from Premier League rivals Southampton in January 2018, and the Dutchman has proved to be a brilliant signing for the Reds.

The 27-year-old has been arguably the best player for Liverpool so far this season, and if the Reds win the Premier League or the Champions League – or both – then the centre-back will have to be given a lot of credit.

According to WhoScored, Van Dijk has made 30 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.

Jurgen Klopp’s are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 73 points from 30 matches, just a point behind leaders Manchester City.
