Paul Merson has advised Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham to stay at the club as speculation mounts about his future at the Championship side.
The Sun claims that his parent club, Chelsea have accepted a mega-money £18 million deal for his services from Wolves as he is set to end his loan spell at Villa Park.
Abraham’s potential departure from B6 would be a body blow to manager Dean Smith, who is chasing promotion to the Premier League this season.
The 21-year-old has scored 16 goals in 20 league matches for the 10th-placed side, including a brace against QPR on New Year’s Day.
Former Villa man Merson offered his thoughts on the Abraham situation as he explained why he should stay at Villa Park for the remainder of this campaign.
“Abraham played in the Premier League last season, he scored five goals in 31 football matches for Swansea,” Merson told Soccer Special on 01/01/2019 at 1:40 pm.
“Stay out on loan at the moment, he’s playing at a top club, probably one of the biggest in the Championship. Stay there, get some more goals. If I was him, I would stay at Villa.”
This is the second time Abraham has played in the second tier of English football having represented Bristol City two seasons ago.
The Chelsea loanee has played 61 matches in the Championship in total, scoring 39 goals, but he did struggle during his spell with Swansea City in the Premier League.
Abraham netted five goals in 31 league matches at the Liberty Stadium as he was unable to prevent the Welsh club from getting relegated to the Championship.
