The future of the France international attacking midfielder is wrapped up in uncertainty, with manager Slaven Bilic recently telling The Sun that he wants to leave.

Bilic added that the 29-year-old does not want to play for the Hammers anymore, with the star not included in the team for the London derby against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

“Yes, why not? I like him, I think he is a good player, Lanzini,” said Merson on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday evening (broadcast from 12pm, January 14, 2017) when asked if Lanzini could fill Payet’s shoes. “I think he has always been in the shadow of Payet.”
