West Ham United play host to Crystal Palace in the Premier League tonight.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson predicted the outcome of tonight’s Premier League clash between the Hammers and the Eagles at the London Stadium, when writing his regular prediction column for Sky Sports.

West Ham head into the game on the back of a woeful performance against Wigan in the FA Cup – one that culminated in their elimination from the competition.

Palace, meanwhile, last played 10 days ago, and were absolutely hammered by Arsenal at the Emirates, although they have been on a decent run on the whole.

The Hammers sit just one point and two places above the Eagles in the table, so tonight’s game is hugely important for both sides, for obvious reasons.

Merson wrote his regular prediction column for Sky Sports, and predicted somewhat of a surprising outcome at the London Stadium tonight:

“It was a very poor result for West Ham at the weekend. I really don’t get it when Premier League teams go out to lower league opposition in the cup. I know the Premier League sides make changes but it really shouldn’t happen. This is a big football match for both teams. I’m going to forget about Crystal Palace’s performance at Arsenal. They started so poorly and were blown away in the first 20 minutes but I’m expecting a better showing from them here. I picked them for victory at the Emirates so I have to keep faith with them here.”

Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace

David Moyes’ side can climb as high as ninth with a win tonight, whilst Roy Hodgson’s men can also jump up to ninth spot with all three points.

With both sides in such desperate need of a victory, there should be a lively game of football on display at the London Stadium tonight.
