Newcastle United have got promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.
Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has predicted in The Daily Star that Rafael Benitez will leave Newcastle United in the summer.
Benitez has been in charge of Newcastle since March 2016 and has a contract with the Magpies until June 2019, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager has done a wonderful job at St. James’ Park, with the team gaining promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs of England and regularly get around 50,000 fans for their home matches.
However, former Arsenal attacker Merson has predicted Benitez to leave Newcastle in the summer, and also believes that the Magpies will finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table at the end of the 2017-18 campaign with the current squad.
“Rafa Benitez can leave Newcastle a hero if he walks out this summer – and I think he will,” Merson wrote in The Daily Star. “He’ll wonder how much further he can take them in the Premier League.
“It doesn’t look like they will be denied promotion because of the tax fraud probe but what if they’re hit with a transfer embargo?
“He might wonder whether it’s worth it if he doesn’t get a big transfer budget. Without new signings they’ll finish 15th or 16th at best in the Prem.”
Benitez is one of the best managers in the world, and if Newcastle back him in the summer transfer window, then the Spaniard could achieve something great in the coming years.
Newcastle have the potential to make themselves as top-10 regulars in the Premier League.
