Paul Merson has told Sky Sports News that Arsenal fans can expect much more to come from Alexandre Lacazette.

If there’s one Gunner who hasn’t really settled under Mikel Arteta, it’s the French striker.

Lacazette, a £52 million signing in 2017 [The Telegraph], has scored just two goals for Arsenal in all competitions since Arteta took the reins back in December.

But the former Lyon hitman did look to be finding his feet prior to the hiatus, scoring in two of his last three Premier League games before the season was suspended.

The North Londoners get their season back underway next Wednesday with a visit to Manchester City.

And former Arsenal star Merson has told Sky Sports News that the ‘top-drawer’ Lacazette is going to get so much better, while also praising fellow striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He said: “There’s a lot more to come from Alexandre Lacazette, he’s a top drawer player.

“You’ve got Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a world-class centre forward who scores goals. He’s a one out of two merchant, where you get two chances and score one, there aren’t many of them in the world.”

Merson is right in saying that Lacazette is going to get better.

He scored a worldie in a 6-0 thumping of Charlton Athletic last week and although it was only a friendly, it’s a reminder that he’s been staying sharp.

If we’re honest, Arsenal need Lacazette in fine form between now and the end of the season and maybe, just maybe, the ninth-placed Emirates Stadium club could sneak a top-five finish if their expensive striker starts firing on all cylinders.
