Everton have been incredibly inconsistent this season.

Ex footballer Paul Merson enjoying day two of the Cheltenham Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse on March 11, 2015 in Cheltenham, England.

Paul Merson questioned the Everton players’ attitudes, when writing his column for Sky Sports, suggesting that Marco Silva cannot be blamed for their inconsistency.

The Toffees enjoyed recent wins against Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal, but they lost 2-0 last time out against already relegated Fulham.

Everton are still targeting the Europa League places, however, and they currently sit in ninth spot in the table, one point adrift of seventh placed Leicester City.

Next up for the Blues is a home game against Manchester United on Sunday, and nothing less than a win will do, but they must be at it from the very first whistle against the Red Devils.

Merson suggested that the Everton players must improve their attitude, however, if they are to achieve a successful campaign this term, when writing his column for Sky Sports:

Marco Silva the head coach

“Could you get anymore different with Everton? One minute they are ripping apart Arsenal and beating West Ham away, then all of a sudden, against a Fulham side that have not scored two goals in a game since day one, and they cannot keep a clean sheet against them. It is a bad attitude there – you cannot look at the manager, you have to look at the players.”

On their day, Everton can mix it with the very best, but their Jekyll and Hyde character has cost them far too many times this season.

And their hopes of beating United on Sunday will depend heavily on which Everton team turns up.
