Celtic suffered a 5-0 defeat the last time they met PSG.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made bleak prediction for Celtic ahead of their trip to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening.
PSG inflicted Celtic’s heaviest ever home European defeat when the two sides met in September, courtesy of goals from Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani (two) and Mikael Lustig, who turned into his own net.
PSG’s goalscoring trio will have left them with little change from £500 million once Mbappe’s permanent transfer from Monaco is finalised next summer.
And speaking to Sky Sports on Wednesday afternoon, Merson predicted the French side to exploit Celtic’s inferior resources in Paris – and match that previous 5-0 scoreline.
Discussing Celtic’s opponents’ tag as favourites to win this season’s Champions League, the former Arsenal and England midfielder said: “They’re not my favourites but I can see where people are coming from.
“But, yeah, if they fancy it (against Celtic) I dread to think what that score will be.”
When prompted, Merson added: “5-0. That’s no disrespect to Celtic. Let’s be honest, look at the players they (PSG) have got. I haven’t seen too many teams do what they did to them at Parkhead, I really haven’t.
“I’ve seen Celtic against Barcelona and all them teams, Man United have been up there and they’ve made it hard. But they just dismantled them, it was unbelievable.”
Celtic cannot qualify for the last-16 stage, with PSG too far ahead of them and Bayern Munich boasting a superior head-to-head record.
However, a point against Anderlecht in their final group stage fixture will be enough to secure Brendan Rodgers’ side’s passage into the Europa League.
