Moussa Sissoko is a very big miss for Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow, Paul Merson concedes.
Paul Merson has admitted to Sky Sports that although he isn’t Moussa Sissoko’s ‘biggest fan’, the Frenchman is a big miss for Tottenham Hotspur this week.
Tottenham visit Chelsea in the second leg of a League Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side earning a 1-0 first-leg lead earlier this month.
But Spurs were rocked by the news that Dele Alli has joined Sissoko and red-hot hitman Harry Kane on the injured list, while Son Heung-min is on international duty.
The former Newcastle star, who is sidelined for a month, has become an increasingly important figure for Pochettino this season after two disappointing years in North London.
And Arsenal legend Merson acknowledges that the 29-year-old’s absence is disappointing from a Tottenham perspective.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s a good time to play Tottenham. If you could say before the game that you can pull out three players from that team, then it would be Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son, along with Christian Eriksen.
“I’m not Moussa Sissoko’s biggest fan either but he has been playing well for them and he’s out too.
“I still think Tottenham have got a chance, I don’t see Chelsea blowing anyone away at the moment with the way they’re playing.”
Having already sold Mousa Dembele, Sissoko is an even bigger miss.
Harry Winks is a top talent, but he doesn’t have that strength and class in midfield that Sissoko and Dembele have, so it’ll be interesting to see how the 22-year-old – the Lilywhites’ hero at Fulham on Sunday after scoring a last-second winner – can cope on his return to West London tomorrow.
