Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could face a retrospective ban.

Paul Merson has told the Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 29th April, that Patrick Bamford could have ‘stitched’ Leeds United up for the rest of the season.

Bamford risks a possible two match ban for simulation, after going down theatrically in Leeds’ last match.

The £7 million striker (Sky Sports) starting clutching his face during Leeds last match, when he only appeared to get knocked in the stomach by Aston Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi.

And Merson feels that Bamford has risked damaging Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s season with his actions.

Merson said: “Patrick Bamford, what’s he doing? He could stitch Leeds up for the rest of the season, because he’s their only centre forward. He could miss the play offs. Do they know there’s a million cameras there?

“These have done great this season, Leeds. Now they’re going to lose one of their best players. On his day he’s a special player. Now he’s spoilt it and probably his reputation.”

Merson’s comments do seemingly not take into the account that Leeds do have Kemar Roofe ready to step in.

Roofe has struggled with fitness problems throughout the second half of the season, but he has arguably enjoyed a better campaign that Bamford at Elland Road.

Leeds have just one match remaining in the regular season, before they enter the play offs.

It looks likely that Bielsa’s men will face Derby County in the promotion deciding classes.
