Everton have been far from their best in recent weeks.
Paul Merson spoke exclusively to Sky Sports, and suggested that the Everton fans will be on Marco Silva’s back, if they fail to beat Leicester at home today.
The Toffees have been really inconsistent so far this season, and they currently sit in 10th spot in the Premier League table, having taken 27 points from their opening 20 games.
Silva has undoubtedly improved the way in which Everton play, but they need results to back that up sooner rather than later.
And there will be no better way to start than by beating Leicester at Goodison Park today.
Merson explained why Silva could be under real pressure, however, if Everton fail to beat the Foxes today, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports:
“I think Everton need to win. The manager’s under a bit of pressure from the fans after their last home game, getting ripped up by six, not looking like scoring at Brighton. It’s a big football match for them, and I think the fans will be on Marco Silva’s back if they don’t win.”
Everton have a run of six very winnable games in the Premier League now with matches against Leicester today before clashes with Bournemouth, Southampton, Huddersfield Town, Wolves and Watford all to come by February 9th, and Silva will surely be targeting a return of at least 15 points from those outings.
The Blues need to be higher in the table than 10th, and Silva’s future on Merseyside will depend heavily on the performances of his side over the next six weeks.
