Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has been discussing the job Marco Silva has on his hands at Everton.

It has been an all too familiar tale for Everton this season.

The Toffees acted on the wishes of fans by replacing Sam Allardyce with Marco Silva in the summer and backed him with funds too.

There have been signs of promise for Everton with the likes of Richarlison quickly establishing himself after his big money move from Watford.

But Silva has just one win from his opening six Premier League games, that coming against Southampton in his second game.

The usual questions are already being asked with many wondering whether Silva is overrated from spells at Hull and Watford, which showed promise but ultimately ended in relegation and indignation respectively.

Everton have lost their last two games, 3-1 at home to West Ham and 2-0 away at Arsenal.

Silva’s side entertain Fulham next time out and will be expected to win as early pressure builds.

But Paul Merson feels there is no quick fix for the Portuguese when they were the subject of discussion on Sky Sports show The Debate.

And the Sky Sports pundit warned Silva about the club’s supporters turning if he doesn’t get things right soon.

“Everybody needs a striker, you know everybody, I mean it’s the hardest thing in the world to put the ball in the back of the net and to get world class forwards it is hard,” Merson told The Debate.

“I just think the Everton team, there is a lot of age in that team and it will take a little bit of time to bring players in and get them players out.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

“It’s a hard place to play Everton, it’s a hard place.

“You’re put under severe pressure, the fans after 20 minutes if you’re not winning then you need big characters. Big, big characters.

“You don’t want to have too many of them results like they had against West Ham or the fans will turn very quickly.”
