Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that Steve Bruce needs to start strongly at Aston Villa.
Bruce has been appointed the Villa manager following the recent departure of Roberto Di Matteo.
The Villans are playing in the Championship this season after getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Villa are currently struggling and find themselves just a point above the bottom three.
Former Arsenal and Villa attacker Merson has warned Bruce, who played for and managed Birmingham City, that he needs to make a good start at Villa Park or he could get into trouble.
“Aston Villa have pulled a blinder appointing Steve Bruce,” Merson wrote in The Daily Star. “But he needs to start well or he will find it very, very difficult there.
“When you’re a Birmingham man and you don’t start well, you’re in major trouble with the fans. Alex McLeish will tell you that.”

Former Birmingham and Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage has also praised Villa for appointing Bruce as the manager.
The former Wales international has also outlined what the Villa players can expect from their new boss.
“Bruce will be a perfect fit for Villa because he is old school and all the players will start with a clean slate,” Savage wrote in The Mirror.
“If you cross him, you’ll find he doesn’t suffer fools gladly – but he’s also a manager who makes his players want to do well for him.”
Bruce is a good manager and knows the Championship inside out, and Villa fans should be pleased with his appointment.
It could take some time for the Villans to get things right, but one should not be surprised if the team start pushing for the playoffs in a few weeks’ time.
