Arsenal are currently three points ahead of Tottenham.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Arsenal moved three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend with a hard fought win over Aston Villa.

But formers Gunners hero Paul Merson is not convinced by Arsenal just yet.

Speaking to The Debate (23/9 Sky Sports 1 10pm) he said he expects Tottenham to finish ahead of Arsenal.

Merson commended Arsenal’s comeback against Aston Villa, but said it does not really solve anything.

He said: “It’s just covered the cracks. Fair play, great comeback, but you can’t keep on doing that. Sooner or later it will catch up with you.

“I still think Tottenham will come third. I still think Tottenham are third best team in league in my opinion.”

Spurs lost 2-1 to Leicester at the weekend, and have had a mixed start to the season.

They let a 2-0 lead slip against Arsenal at the end of last month as the teams drew 2-2.

Liverpool and Manchester City look set to finish in the top two once again, and then its a case of the best of the rest.

Tottenham may have the players to end up finishing third, but they are not making a convincing case right now.

Arsenal will feel they have a strong chance, while Chelsea and even the likes of Leicester and West Ham will fancy their chances.
