Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side are pushing Manchester City hard in the race for the title.

Luis Hernandez of Mexico tries to tackle Paul Merson of England during the Star Sixe's match between England and Mexico at The O2 Arena on July 15, 2017 in London, England.

Paul Merson has told the Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 29th April, that Liverpool’s substitutes’ bench is much weaker than Manchester City’s.

Liverpool and City are battling it out for the Premier League title, and the pair have been absolutely relentless.

Liverpool have kept putting the pressure on City by winning, but Pep Guardiola’s men are yet to slip up.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are still within touching distance of City, but there are only two games remaining this season.

And Merson feels that Liverpool may just miss out to City, as they don’t have quite as much depth in their squad.

He said: “I think that’s where they [City] have the edge, when it comes to it you look on the bench and they have Jesus and Sane.

“No disrespect but you look on the bench at Liverpool and he will look and think have I got anyone who can come on and change the game here?

“Liverpool have pushed them all the way here. I expect them to beat Barcelona, that’s how good this Liverpool team is and they still might have to wait another year.”

Liverpool do have the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi to bring off the bench, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also returning from injury.

However, City have invested so heavily in their side that they have some world-class talent waiting to come on and changed games for them.

Liverpool’s last two games this season come against Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, while City take on Leicester and Brighton.
