Paul Merson has picked his winner for the Tottenham game against Liverpool.

Paul Merson believes that Tottenham will suffer a narrow 2-1 defeat when they host Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday in the Premier League.

Sky Sports pundit Merson insists that Liverpool’s threat on the counter could be the difference between the two sides and he can see Jurgen Klopp’s side continuing their perfect start to the season.

Liverpool have won their first four games this campaign, while Spurs’ 100 per cent record was wrecked by a defeat to Watford just before the international break.

The North London club destroyed Liverpool 4-1 last season in their league meeting at Wembley, but the latter are expected to be in contention for the title this year.

“I fancy Liverpool based on the counter-attack game,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“This game is bigger for Tottenham than it is for Liverpool – this is a game Spurs can’t afford to lose, they’ve got to have a go especially after what happened at Watford. Liverpool will pick them off.

“If you want to win Premier League titles then you have to win these games, so Liverpool will be judged on this too. I think they’ll win this one but toppling Manchester City for the title will be so difficult.”

Liverpool’s frontline is arguably the most dangerous in the Premier League right now and they are going to threaten all defences.

Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have started the season in decent form, while teammate Sadio Mane has already notched up four league goals.

Spurs could line up with a three-man defence of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez to try stop them, and the outcome of the result could be determined by that battle.
