Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer.

Paul Merson explained why he is worried for Spurs, when speaking on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme, as Real Madrid continue to be linked with a move for Harry Kane.

The 24-year-old has been in sensational form for Tottenham this season, scoring 33 goals in 34 games in all competitions, and he has now firmly established himself as one of the continent’s most feared front-men.

Kane has always avoided any talk of a move away from Spurs, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side will have to prove that they can match his ambition over the next six months, if he is to remain in north London.

Tottenham will have their work cut-out, if they hope to keep hold of the England international, however.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are preparing a £200 million bid for Kane in the summer, according to the Sunday Times, and that could prove to be extremely difficult to refuse.

Merson explained why he worries for Spurs that Kane could be on his way in the summer, when speaking live on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme:

Paul Merson (l) and Phil Thompson answer questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

“I would be worried if I was Tottenham because money talks. £200 million, or even £160 million is a lot. I can’t see how Real Madrid don’t go for him in the summer for £150-200 million. How’s Benzema playing for Real Madrid? He’s not in the same class as Kane. They’re a million points behind Barcelona and they need a new centre-forward.”

If Spurs are to continue their progress as a football club, they absolutely must hold on to Kane in the summer, but if Madrid come knocking, that will be easier said than done.
