Tottenham Hotspur will be without Harry Kane as they aim to maintain their top-four status when they take on Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
Paul Merson has warned Tottenham that Harry Kane’s injury will ‘take its toll’ on them as the season progresses, but he doesn’t expect it to be a problem for their clash against Huddersfield on Saturday.
On Tuesday night, during Spurs’ 1-0 Champions League first-leg win over Manchester City, Kane hobbled off after a challenge from Fabian Delph.
The England captain has already been on the sidelines this season and if his most recent injury is anything serious then it will more than likely keep him out for the rest of the campaign.
Former Premier League playmaker Merson stated that Kane wouldn’t have played against the Terriers on Saturday even if he was fit, but his current knock could be a problem in the long run for the North London club.
“Harry Kane’s injury won’t affect them in this game, and I’m not sure he would’ve played anyway,” Merson told Sky Sports. “But over the course of the rest of the season, I think it’ll take its toll. This will be a walk in the park.”
There are still a number of big games left for Spurs, mainly against Manchester City, who they will play in the Premier League and Champions League in the next week.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are still in control of their own destiny when it comes to finishing in the top-four but if poor results follow Kane’s knock then supporters will get a little edgy.
But the Premier League hitman will be an even bigger miss in Europe because his boyhood club have a huge chance of reaching the last four of the Champions League.
