Would Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez be a good managerial appointment for Arsenal?

Paul Merson has suggested to talkSPORT that Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez would not be a good fit for Arsenal.

Benitez is doing a wonderful job at Newcastle at the moment, with the Magpies looking set to remain in the Premier League for the 2018-19 campaign.

The Spaniard is one of the best managers in the world, and has been in charge of clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea in his career.

Former Arsenal star Merson, though, does not think that Benitez would not be a good fit for the North London outfit.

Merson told talkSPORT: “I like Benitez – he is one of the top managers. I just think Arsenal [fans] want to see entertaining football, and I know this might sound a bit silly, but they want to see teams who go out to win football matches.

“Benitez sort of sets his teams up – even at Liverpool – not to get beaten, and you go from there.

“Arsenal fans are staying away at the moment because it’s not entertaining enough, and I think they will need someone with a little bit more flair.”

Pragmatic

Benitez is a very pragmatic coach, while Arsenal fans are used to play attacking and fluid football under manager Arsene Wenger.

The Spaniard does not look like he would be a great fit at Arsenal; and in any case, he may not be willing to leave Newcastle.

Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs of England, and the St. James’ Park faithful absolutely love Benitez, who could build something great at the Magpies if he is backed in the transfer market.
