Paul Merson has praised Danny Ings for his West Ham United debut after recently leaving Aston Villa, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (21/01/23 at 5:20 pm).
The former Aston Villa midfielder added that Ings ‘kept the ball’ well to stop constant Everton attacks, as David Moyes’ side recorded a much-needed 2-0 win over Frank Lampard’s men in their relegation dogfight.
West Ham paid Villa £12 million for Ings’ talents this month (Football London) and it will rise to £15 million if the London club stay in the Premier League.

Whilst they are still hovering one point above the Premier League’s relegation zone, they should stay up because from the teams near the bottom, they probably have the better quality of players.
And with someone of Ings’ quality, West Ham’s relegation rivals would have been left disappointed because they know the impact the 30-year-old can have.
Nonetheless, after coming on after 72 minutes at 2-0 up, this is what Merson made of Ings’ debut at the London Stadium.
“He did well,” said Merson. “He didn’t do too much. He did play a great ball to Bowen. What he did do, when I said that he could be a threat on the counter-attack, he kept the ball. He kept it for that little bit extra.
“Otherwise, it kept on coming back. It was attack after attack. He came on and he can find a pass.”

INGS IS A VERY GOOD PURCHASE
From Everton to Southampton and to Wolves. All these teams are in a relegation fight with West Ham.
If they were offered the chance to sign Ings, then they would have bitten Villa’s hands off, so that in itself should say it all.
Either way, he is a very good purchase, he will score the goals to push the team up the table and ensure that the final few weeks of the season are a little easier to deal with for fans.
