Pundit says best Tottenham can hope for is a draw this weekend against Chelsea.

Paul Merson has told SkySport that he believes Tottenham may have to settle for a draw against Chelsea this weekend at Wembley.

Merson says that if one team is going to win Sunday’s match it will be Chelsea, as he was not impressed with Tottenham last weekend despite their 2-0 victory over Newcastle.

This is even considering Chelsea’s 3-2 loss to Burnley, which has piled the pressure on boss Antonio Conte, who must now do without suspended duo Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Merson told SkySports he is predicting a 1-1 draw, and failng that, a Chelsea win. He said: “Chelsea won’t lose here. I think both teams will be more than happy with a draw.

“You have to remember that the last thing Tottenham want to do is lose this game – their first at Wembley this season – and Chelsea can’t afford to lose a second game on the bounce.

“If not a draw I would probably go Chelsea. I was not impressed with Tottenham at Newcastle, I thought they were poor.”

Harry Kane of Tottenham celebrates scoring to make it 1-0 during the pre-season match between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

Tottenham may be playing at Wembley but it is Chelsea who are under the most pressure.

Spurs have an opportunity to open a six point gap over the reigning champions if they can win, and make an early statement.

They had a strong home record last season and while they are switching their home ground to Wembley where they have struggled in recent fixtures, this is a chance to lay down an early marker and get over a potential mental block.
