Paul Merson is worried about how Everton fit all their new signings together.
Everton have already brought in Davy Klaasen, Sandro, and Wayne Rooney before spending a club record £45 million fee on Sigurdsson.
Merson has compared the situation to Liverpool utility man James Milner’s arrival at Manchester City in 2010.
He told SkySports: “I don’t see Everton scoring bundles of goals this season. Sigurdsson is a good player but where are all these new players going to play?
“I remember when James Milner was bought by Manchester City in the year they signed loads of players and you looked and thought where are they all playing? That’s the case now with Everton it seems.”
Milner went on to win the Premier League title with Manchester City so Everton would certainly take that, but Merson believes Everton will finish only in seventh as they have not adequately replaced Romelu Lukaku.
He is predicting a crushing 3-0 loss when the Toffees face Manchester City on Monday night.
Merson said: “It’s a big void to fill. Everton will be seventh but they need a forward if they want to try to break the top four.
“I don’t see Everton blowing teams away and Manchester City are on a different planet to them at the moment.”
With Everton still knitting their side together, the pressure is on Manchester City on Monday night.
That is a scenario where the Toffees may be able to take advantage if City get off to a slow start and spring an upset. Sigurdsson would certainly love to make an early impact.
