Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has stated on Skysports.com that Wolverhampton Wanderers struggle against teams who do not come at them.

Merson has claimed that Wolves get frustrated against teams who do not attack them, pointing out that that they lost 2-0 to Huddersfield Town at home in the Premier League back in November 2018.

The former England international attacking midfielder has also claimed that Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is the best tactician in the Premier League.

Merson made the comments ahead of the Premier League game between Wolves and Newcastle at the Molineux Stadium on Monday evening.

Merson wrote on Skysports.com: “Rafa Benitez is tactically very good, he goes under the radar, but tactically he is probably the best in the Premier League.”

“Wolves, though, struggle against teams that do not come out against them and they get frustrated – they lost at home at a canter to the bottom club, Huddersfield, so this could be a difficult game for them,” added Merson.

Bold claim

Benitez, who is hugely popular among the fans of Newcastle, is a very good tactician and is one of the best managers in the world, but there are far better managers than him in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola is a much better manager than Benitez, and some could argue that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino are better tactically than the Spaniard.
