Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea need a goalscorer, suggests Paul Merson.

Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Paul Merson has suggested on Skysports.com that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ problem is lack of a goalscorer.

Wolves have scored just 12 goals in 12 Premier League matches so far this season.

The Wanderers are playing good football, bu Nuno’s team are struggling for goals.

Merson, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has suggested that Wolves have the same problem as Premier League title challengers Chelsea – lack of a goalscorer.

“I thought Wolves were outstanding at Arsenal, they took the game to them and embarrassed them at times and Bernd Leno had to have a really good game,” Merson wrote on Skysports.com.

“They were great, but again, only scored one goal and there have been other games where they were great and did not even score a goal.

“So that is Wolves’ problem – they have not got a goalscorer and everybody is looking for one at the moment, even Chelsea. And if they can’t find one, how are Wolves going to?”

Goalscoring problem

Chelsea do have two of the best strikers in the Premier League in Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud, although it must be said that the Spaniard needs to be more consistent and more clinical.

Wolves do not have a Morata or a Giroud, and the likes of Leo Bonatini and Raul Jimenez are not at that level.

The Wanderers do need to find a proven goalscorer in the January transfer window, but the problem is that there are not too many available.

Wolves, though, should still have enough not to get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
