Dele Alli is not playing well for Tottenham Hotspur at the moment.

Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli needs to make more late runs.

The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has suggested that Alli goes back to being the Frank Lampard or David Platt-type player.

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Dele Alli is another one. He needs to get back to doing what he does best, to being that Frank Lampard or David Platt type who makes a late run into the box.

“He comes short too much and it gets too congested in midfield. Teams can squeeze up and press you. He’s as good as anyone making those late runs but I don’t see that any more either.”

Disappointing form

Alli is one of the best and most promising young midfielders in Europe, but the Tottenham star has not been at his best for a while now.

The 23-year-old has played just 31 minutes in the Premier League and 144 minutes in the Champions League for Spurs so far this season, according to WhoScored.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the England international made 22 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs, scoring five goals and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

The youngster also played eight matches in the Champions League for Tottenham last season, providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
