Tottenham Hotspur will not win the Champions League, says Paul Merson.

Tottenham have progressed to the last-16 stage of Europe’s premier club competition.
The stunning 3-1 victory over defending European champions Real Madrid at the Wembley Stadium in London on Wednesday evening saw Spurs book a place in the competition’s knockout rounds.
Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Merson does not think that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will win the Champions League this season.

“What Tottenham did to Real Madrid was brilliant,” Merson wrote in The Daily Star. “I don’t think they can win the Champions League, but they should be among the favourites with the bookies after that.
“They have not had an easy draw but they have walked that group and it should give them so much confidence.”

Tottenham’s performances and results against Madrid both home and away suggest that they can be a match for any time.
While it is is hard to envisage Spurs winning the Champions League ahead of the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, if they get favourable draws in the knockout stages, then they could do something marvellous in Europe’s premier club competition.
Spurs are also going strong in the Premier League and will consider themselves among the contenders for the title.
