Salomon Rondon joined Newcastle United on loan from West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2018.
Venezuela international striker Rondon, 29, joined Premier League club Newcastle on a season-long loan deal from Championship outfit West From in the summer of 2018.
As part of the deal, 29-year-old Dwight Gayle moved to the Baggies on a season-long loan deal from the Magpies.
Rondon has made 22 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle so far this season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
As for Gayle, the former Crystal Palace striker has made 24 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship for West Brom so far this campaign, scoring 16 goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
Former Arsenal star Merson has suggested that West Brom will want Rondon back if they clinch promotion to the Premier League for the 2019-20 campaign.
Merson said about Rondon on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Football last Saturday afternoon (2:23pm, March 9, 2019): “Is he on loan from West Brom? What happens if West Prom get promoted?
“West Brom, then, surely what they have seen of him playing in the Premier League, you know we need you to head us next season.”

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez recently told The Daily Mail that the Magpie should be aiming to reach the level of Everton.
Merson said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Football last Saturday afternoon (2:19pm, March 9, 2019) when asked about Benitez’s comments: “That’s where Newcastle should be. I agree.”
The Sky Sports pundit added: “For me, I would be aiming for Arsenal and teams like that, in my opinion.
“I am not saying this year or next year, but if I am going to be supporting that team for the next 10 years, that’s where I want to be aiming.”
