Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star that Everton will not dismiss Marco Silva as the manager.

The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that if Everton wanted a new manager, then the Toffees would have dismissed Silva during the two-week international break.

Merson has also said that the former Watford manager himself is surprised that he is still at Goodison Park.

Merson wrote about Silva in The Daily Star: “Marco Silva is fortunate to still be in a job at Everton and I bet he was surprised himself they didn’t sack him during the international break.

“That is the most deadly time for managers. The two-week break gives clubs a chance to get someone else in and they have been on such a bad run it looked like his time was up.

“But I’m sorry Everton fans, you are probably stuck with him for the season now. If the club aren’t sacking him going into that break with four defeats in a row, it means they want to stick with him.”

Improvement needed

Everton have a very good squad and have invested a lot of money in recent years, and it is clear that the team need to improve.

Silva is a very good manager, but the former Hull City boss is struggling to get the best out of his players.

With the two-week international break now over, the Portuguese manager will hope to see his side put a run of positive results together.

West Ham will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Everton away from home at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
