Everton manager Marco Silva suggests that he wants to sign a striker, while Paul Merson dismisses the Toffees’ chances of finishing in the top six next season.
The former England international does not think that the Toffees have any chance of breaking into the top six with the team that they have at the moment.
Merson said about Everton on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News on Saturday afternoon (12:31pm, May 4, 2019): “I don’t think they are bad, but people don’t tell me this team is going to finish in the top six next season. No chance.”
Top-six finish?
Everton could finish seventh in the Premier League this season, and that will not be bad for the Toffees.
The Merseyside outfit do have aims of finishing in the top six and higher, but it is going to be very hard for them.
After all, the top six are pretty much set in stone at the moment – Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
It is going to be hard for any club and not just Everton to break into that bracket.
A new striker?
Meanwhile, Everton manager Marco Silva has suggested that he will sign a striker in the summer transfer window.
Cenk Tosun has not always delivered, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is very young, and Richarlison is not a striker by trade.
Silva told Sky Sports when asked about signing a striker: “Since Lukaku left our club, always it will be the same conversation. Having one striker who scored 20 goals every season, everyone is asking who can step in?
“We have to first respect Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun, and Richarlison. If you ask me if I want to improve our squad, of course I do.”
