Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli will join teammate Harry Kane in the treatment room.
Paul Merson has claimed that Dele Alli’s injury is a result of Tottenham ‘not having a big enough squad’, but Harry Kane’s could have happened at any moment.
Spurs confirmed on their official Twitter account on Tuesday that midfielder Alli suffered a hamstring strain during his side’s 2-1 win at Fulham and will be out of action until early March.
Mauricio Pochettino is already dealing with Heung-min Son going away on international duty and star striker Kane damaging ligaments in his left ankle.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson offered his thoughts on Spurs’ injured stars as he explained his theory behind them being out of action.
“The Kane one that could have happened the first day of the season,” Merson told the Debate show on Sky Sports on 21/01/2019 at 10:50 pm. “The Dele Alli one, that’s not having a big enough squad.
“He’s playing a lot of big games, one after the other – has it come back to bite them [not having a big enough squad]?”
Both Kane and Alli have been key players for Pochettino in the attacking department this season as he will need to make various adjustments to his starting XI.
At Craven Cottage, prior to Alli’s injury, striker Fernando Llorente replaced Kane in the team, but the Spaniard, who scored an own goal, produced a poor display in front of goal.
Now, Pochettino will have to do without his goalscoring midfielder too, with the possibility that a youngster could be brought into the starting fold or Lucas Moura could occupy a forward role.
Nonetheless, Spurs will travel to Stamford Bridge on Thursday where they will be hoping to progress through to the Carabao Cup final.
