Paul Merson has claimed that the Tottenham Hotspur players kept on fouling Wilfried Zaha ‘every time’ he got the ball as he stated that the Crystal Palace player didn’t do much wrong despite his team losing on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side thrashed Palace 4-0, with all four goals coming inside the first-half, as Heung-Min Son netted a brace on the day.

Zaha is arguably the best player outside of the Premier League’s top-six, and it won’t be too long before he moves on to bigger and better things.

Speaking to Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News (14/09/2019 at 5:20 pm), Merson suggested that Zaha is too good for the current level he is playing at.

“He had one shot that went straight to the keeper,” Merson told Soccer Saturday. “He did nothing wrong. I mean every time he got the ball, they fouled him. Every single time he got the ball, he got fouled.

“He did nothing wrong and it must be frustrating for him. He’s playing for Palace, and I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but he’s better than that. It seems like he has to do it all on his own.”

Palace had come into this match on the back of some good form, including beating Manchester United at Old Trafford, but they weren’t able to replicate that form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The start Pochettino’s side made gave them no chance because they had scored three goals inside the first 25 minutes before Erik Lamela made the scoreline more dominant just before the break.

Zaha’s current focus will be on trying to help Palace stay in the Premier League, with his presence, goals and assists, they are almost certainties to stay in England’s top-flight.
