Speaking on the 90Min YouTube channel, Paul Merson has been previewing the north London derby.

The Gunners legend was trying to create a combined XI along with Jamie O’Hara consisting of just Spurs and Arsenal players, and when they got onto the midfield, Merson had plenty to say about one player.

Indeed, Merson had some harsh words for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, claiming that the Danish midfielder thinks he’s better than he actually is.

What’s been said?

Merson expressed the fact that he isn’t Hojbjerg’s biggest fan.

“I’m not a great lover of Hojbjerg. He thinks he’s better than he is in my opinion. What’s brilliant? Finishing ninth or tenth. He has the easiest job in the world, he just sits in front of the back two,” Merson said.

Missing the point

We can’t help that Merson is missing the point with Hojbjerg a bit here.

For the pundit to say that Hojbjerg has the easiest job in the world is wide of the mark. Yes, playing in holding midfield isn’t the most strenuous activity in the world, but to do that job well is a hard task.

Hojbjerg reads the game brilliantly and he has a fantastic passing range.

Does he overrate himself? Well, we can’t say that we had him down as one of the Premier League’s most egotistical players, but perhaps Merson knows more about him than most.
