Paul Merson has made a huge claim by stating that Liverpool would ‘win the league’ if they had Arsenal’s remaining fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are currently top of the Premier League table, will host third-placed Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in what is set to be a tricky fixture.

By the time the Reds play their match, they could find themselves sitting in second place because Manchester City take on relegation-threatened Fulham in the early kick-off on Saturday.

Nonetheless, former England playmaker Merson explained why Unai Emery’s side are not absolute certainties to finish in the top-four at the end of the season.

“If Liverpool had Arsenal’s remaining fixtures they would win the league,” Merson told Sky Sports. “But you just know that Arsenal won’t win all of these games and that’s why they are not a shoo-in for the top four.”

At this moment in time, the Gunners are sitting fourth in the Premier League table and they will host Newcastle on home soil at the weekend.

After that, they have ties against the likes of Everton, FA Cup semi-finalists Watford, Crystal Palace and Wolves to name a few.

By contrast, Liverpool still have to play the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle and Wolves. But out of all their remaining fixtures, their encounter at home to the Blues will arguably be the toughest.

Nonetheless, prior to the international break, Klopp’s side left it late to beat Fulham at Craven Cottage, with James Milner netting the late winner. The German will be hoping for more of an easy afternoon at the weekend.
