Paul Merson mocked Calum Chambers on Sky Sports News (28/08/21 at 12:45 pm) after he was calling for a foul when Ferran Torres scored Manchester City’s second goal against Arsenal on Saturday.
The TV pundit claimed that Chambers, who went down clutching his face when Torres scored, was asking the referee ‘can we go home now?’.
Given that Arsenal were 2-0 down inside 13 minutes, and eventually lost the match by five, what Merson is trying to imply is that Chambers wasn’t up to it.
And in truth, many of the Arsenal players simply didn’t put up any fight as the Premier League champions walked all over them.
Nonetheless, this is what Sky presenter Stelling and ex-Gunners man Merson had to say about that second Man City goal from the weekend.
“There are some complaints to Martin Atkinson,” said Stelling. “I really don’t know what’s that about. Calum Chambers is getting a bit of treatment.”
Merson responded and said about the £16m player (BBC Sport): “No, he ain’t. He is saying ‘can we go home now?’. He did ‘he said we can stop now. It’s too hot’.”

It has been a car crash of a start from Mikel Arteta, who is probably weeks away from getting the chop if things continue in this vain.
Given that Arsenal are sitting bottom of the table after three games says it all because, for many, it’s no surprise they are in this situation.
In truth, many will be staggered that Arteta has lasted so long in the job because he could have easily been handed his P45 last season.
And whilst he is at fault for the club’s current situation, in truth, Arsenal were declining and in a mess well before he walked through their doors.
