Paul Merson told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (30/01/21 at 1:05 pm) that Aston Villa star Jack Grealish is playing on a ‘different planet’.
These comments from the Villa Park legend came before Dean Smith’s men secured a 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday evening, where Grealish assisted for the ninth time this season.
Aston Villa’s expert ball-carrier has been one of the best performers in the Premier League this season.
It was well-documented in the summer that a certain club from Manchester were keen to add him to their books, but instead, he ended up adding more years to his current deal in the West Midlands.
Nonetheless, former Villa midfielder Merson thinks that there aren’t many players performing better than Grealish, at this moment in time.
“Jack Grealish is on a different planet,” said Merson. “Honestly, I think he’s that good. I have been saying it for a long, long time now.
“Some of the stuff [he does]. The ball is coming into him and he’s just laying it off one-touch, he sees pictures and he goes past players.
“Find me a player better than him, at the moment. Honestly, I think you will find it very difficult.”
After surviving on the last day of the Premier League previous campaign, Grealish will be hoping to lead his boyhood club to Europe this time.
Given Grealish’s own form, the vastly improved defence and the abundance of attacking talent now around the Premier League’s most fouled player, it does increase those chances.
It’s not Kevin de Bruyne or Bruno Fernandes who have created the most chances in the Premier League this season because it’s Villa’s very own captain.
