Everton opted against going for Burnley boss Sean Dyche, and put Sam Allardyce in charge instead.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Paul Merson has told The Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 19th April, that he cannot believe Everton did not appoint Sean Dyche.

Everton were heavily linked with the Burnley boss, after they parted company with Sam Allardyce.

However, when the Toffees failed to get Marco Silva, they ended up appointing Sam Allardyce instead.

Allardyce has failed to really inspire the Goodison Park crowd, during his time in charge and there are now doubts over whether the former England boss will remain in charge next season.

Sean Dyche, Manager of Burnley reacts during the Premier League match between Everton and Burnley at Goodison Park on October 1, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Allardyce could be let go by Everton at the end of the term, but there are now doubts over whether Dyche would join.

Dyche has recently signed a new deal at Turf Moor, and Merson believes Everton may have missed their chance now.

“I couldn’t believe he didn’t get the Everton job,” Merson said. “He’s just signed a five-year deal now, so I think he’s happy where he is.”

Sean Dyche, Manager of Burnley looks on prior to the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Burnley at Selhurst Park on January 13, 2018 in London, England.

It does not appear that Dyche is on Everton’s radar, even if they do part company with Allardyce.

At the moment Paolo Fonseca is the bookies’ favourite to land the Everton job, if Allardyce leaves, with Silva also believed to be being considered again.
