Arsenal have failed to impress for much of this season so far, with Unai Emery’s side currently sat in fifth place in the Premier League table.

Paul Merson has criticised Unai Emery on Sky Sports’ website after reading the Arsenal boss suggest that he thought his tactics worked against Wolves.

Arsenal drew 1-1 with Wolves at the weekend, with the visitors having 24 shots during the contest.

The Gunners were slightly fortunate to get even a point from the match in the end, as Diogo Jota wasted a great chance for Wolves in the final minutes.

However, Emery suggested after the game that his tactical plan worked, in a bizarre press conference.

Merson has now read those comments, and he has suggested that the Arsenal boss could be in danger of losing his job.

“I read somewhere that Unai Emery was pleased with how Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Wolves panned out from a tactical perspective,” he said. “If letting Wolves have 24 shots on goal was what he wanted, then yes, it went to plan.

“But when you consider that was the most shots Arsenal have faced in a Premier League game since moving to the Emirates, I doubt whether that was his intention. That came after Arsenal conceded 31 shots away at Watford, who are rock bottom of the Premier League. That is some doing.

“Emery is struggling and with a trip to Leicester on Saturday, he will do well to keep hold of his job if that goes against him.”

Emery is certainly coming under increasing pressure at the Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal’s problems showing no signs of getting any better.

There are real questions over whether Emery has progressed the side after taking over from Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal are next in action later this evening, when they take on Vitoria in the Europa League.
